But just when their long-awaited destiny is finally within reach, a powerful curse falls upon Damen… One that could destroy everything. Now a single touch of their hands or a soft brush of their lips could mean sudden death—plunging Damen into the Shadowland. Desperate to break the curse and save Damen, Ever immerses herself in magick—and gets help from an unexpected source… A surfer named Jude. Although she and Jude have only just met, he feels startlingly familiar. Despite her fierce loyalty to Damen, Ever is drawn to Jude, a green-eyed golden boy with magical talents and a mysterious past. She’s always believed Damen to be her soulmate and one true love—and she still believes it to be true. But as Damen pulls away to save them, Ever’s connection with Jude grows stronger—and tests her love for Damen like never before.

My Thoughts:

I must admit I got pretty excited after reading Shadowland's synopsis. I mean, it may sound cliche, but a love triangle is one thing I like about romances. If it gets to be well-written along with original ideas, better. It might be nice to me.

Jude's an interesting character, that also had to be more explored, which he wasn't. He totally catched me. I'm definitely Team Jude. And I think Nöel totally failed with him. I'm mad and sad and all because of it. Despite all that Damen has done and said and been, I think he's not the one yet. I got annoyed by his "Edward Cullen" syndrome and sometimes I would have slapped him in the face if I could. I mean, he almost pratically gave up on Ever like Edward almost did to Bella. 'Hello! So last year!' I hated it. It's not original nor captivating. I think Damen has been the only hot-main-character that hasn't pleased me enough. Just annoying.

The plot could had been better developed, but it's still poor. I mean, I appreciated some ideas like the Shadowland thing after death, the Jude thing, the twins thing... But all these things definitely were shadowed by the things I didn't like, for example, the ending.

What the heck with that ending? What the heck with
allow Damen and Ever to touch each other without Damen dying!? Not attractive. Just let the girl alone, Damen! Please. Yeah, I'm not talking to Alyson, I'm talking to Damen. And what about Jude? Is he evil or not? That's what I loved. It'd be so nice if he was evil... In my opinion, Ever should be with Jude. I hope Alyson Nöel fixs some things up in Dark Flame. I'm still in the hope of this story gets better.

Nothing got resolved. The story goes and goes while more and more problems and intringuing events appear to Ever to resolve, but she can't or she doesn't
, mostly because she's such a subborn girl. Now I'm definitely speaking for Blue Moon as well.

The twins thing. Loved it. They brought something to the story. It was good, really. They're adorable. And about the writing... Do I have to say more about it? I'm sure I don't. I have said enough on my previous reviews about her books.

Overall, I didn't like Shadowland, not how much I'd like to like it. I just hink Alyson kind of lost some great ideas. That's why I give it 3.5 stars out of 5.

  5. Oh dear...I've yet to read Blue Moon (I think I've mentioned before :P). And Ah...I don't know what to think anymore. Lol. But I'm still going to read it, try it out for myself. I don't like stopping in the middle of a series. I tend to get curious a lot. :D

  7. Heh, heh... I had to read your review after reading your comment on mine. I love your review, I found much the same, though I did find it engaging with the other characters. I liked Jude as well, and I LOVE the twins. They are hilarious... :) I can't stand how Ever continually balks at everything Damen says, and promptly makes the wrong choice again! ah well... I'll be reading Dark Flame as well, and I think I'll be reading Radiance when it comes out because I really like Riley!
