Shadow Hills
By
Anastasia Hopcus

Publisher: Egmont USA
Release Date: July 13, 2010
Pages: 400

Synopsis
After her sister Athena's tragic death, it's obvious that grief-stricken Persephone "Phe" Archer no longer belongs in Los Angeles. Hoping to make sense of her sister's sudden demise and the cryptic dreams following it, Phe abandons her bubbly LA life to attend an uptight East Coast preparatory school in Shadow Hills, MA -- a school which her sister mysteriously mentioned in her last diary entry before she died.

Once there, Phe quickly realizes that something is deeply amiss in her new town. Not only does Shadow Hills' history boast an unexplained epidemic that decimated hundreds of its citizens in the 1700s, but its modern townies also seem eerily psychic, with the bizarre ability to bend metal. Even Zach -- the gorgeous stranger Phe meets and immediately begins to lust after -- seems as if he is hiding something serious. Phe is determined to get to the bottom of it. The longer she stays there, the more she suspects that her sister's untimely death and her own destiny are intricately linked to those who reside in Shadow Hills.
There are 24 bloggers participating, 12 puzzle pieces being revealed and 24 trivia questions for you to answer -- which means that the contest will be happening during 12 days, and that there will be 1 puzzle piece revealed per day and 2 trivia questions to answer -- which means that you will have 2 chances per day to win a prize.

It is not mandatory to follow my blog or my twitter account to be entered. All you have to do is to fill out this FORM, providing every information it asks you to. This is open for US only. If you happen to be the only person to answer the trivia question correctly, you will be the winner. But if more than one person does, the winner will be randomly chosen by the random.org from those who answered it correctly. PLEASE, do NOT leave answers on the comment section!

PUZZLE PIECE #6

TRIVIA QUESTION #11
What is the first name of Kresky Hall's house mistress?
Today, Jennifer from Fictionally Yours is also posting the same puzzle piece as me, but a different trivia question. Visit her blog and answer it if you want to get another chance to win a Shadow Hills prize.

Yesterday, it was the time for Irish (Ticket to Anywhere) and Angela (Reading Angel) to post their puzzle piece and trivia questions! If you haven't tried to answer them yet, go now.

Tomorrow, it will be the time for Erica (The Book Cellar) and Catie (Book Bound) to post their puzzle piece and trivia questions, too. Make sure to visit their blogs and participate!

At the end of the contest, Anastasia Hopcus, the author of Shadow Hills, will reveal the final paperback cover on her website, on November 20th! So it means you have until this date to answer the trivia questions and enter our contest. Feel free to be friends with Anastasia on Facebook or follow her on Twitter to keep yourself informed.

Regras:
  • Seja seguidor(a) do blog.

Guest Post: Shelena Shorts (And giveaway!)

This Saturday our guest is Shelena Shorts, the author of The Pace, released last year. Its sequel, The Broken Lake, is being released in August. So, today Shelena shares her thoughts regarding summer and books with all of us.

Perfect Summer Book: SOS!
Reading on the beach, listening to waves crash. Ahh... oh how I wish I was there right now. It's neck and neck to curling up by a fire in the winters with a good book. And actually, if I had to choose which one I preferred, I don't think I could. Good thing nature is choosing for me! It's 95 degrees in Virginia and a trip to the beach is right around the corner! Yes, yes, and yes!!

But now I have a dilemma of what books to take. It's getting harder and harder to choose, because I have kids and those quiet hours on the beach, listening to waves crashing are getting replaced by, "Mommy look at me. Mommy, come swim. Mommy, watch this:D!"

That means lots of interruptions, but I do still get time to read! I just can't pick ones where I know they'll be page turners or highly intense, because it's not fun to read a little here or there when you have to stop, and the whole time, you're itching to find out what happens back on those pages. It can make a vacation more stressful LOL!

So for me, right now, the perfect beach read is a love story, but not a suspenseful one. One where the characters have great chemistry, they have an obstacle to climb that's not sad, and one that I can walk away from and pick back up feeling just as content as when I left off. Those are hard to find, but when you do....it's peerrrffecttt! Right?

Giveaway

Besides doing a guest post for our Challenge, Shelena is also donating a super-cool The Pace Summer Prize Pack! There will be only ONE winner, who will receive a Beach bag, a Beach towel, a signed copy of The Pace and The Pace bookmarks. The giveaway is open INTERNATIONALLY.

- It's not required to be a follower of this blog, but you will only be entered once you have signed up for the Challenge. Done that, leave a comment here with your email address.

- Extra entries? Spread the word about the Beach Reads Summer Challenge and leave the link here on the comments.

- Like all the others Beach Reads Summer Challenge giveaways, this one will end on August 30th and the winner will be announced on August 31st.
Good luck, y'all!

Contest: Whisper by Phoebe Kitanidis [CLOSED]

Yes, it took a while for me to finally post this. It's been such an amazing honor for me to host this contest right here at my blog because I've been so happy while recommending it for everybody, everywhere, anytime! Whisper is not only an adorable, original book, but it is also by one of the nicest authors I have ever talked to. And it means so much to me, since I am from far away from the North America and Europe, continents where most people might speak English fluently and have bigger opportunities to meet their favorite authors. :)

I must have said once that since I first saw the cover of Whisper
and read its synopsis, months before the release date, I had been so wanting to receive a copy to read. That's when I, after a while, took courage to send Phoebe Kitanidis a request. I was sincerely afraid of hearing a big NO, because I know it's not so cool to email authors... Some might get bothered. But then she, like always have been, was very nice to me and fowarded the request to another person who could send me. I kept waiting for being contacted and a week after that I had a review copy in my hands. Happy dances all day!

Whisper came out on April 27th, 2010 by Balzer + Bray, an imprint of HaperCollins Publishers. By the love I have for this book, I would also love you if you read and commented on my INTERVIEW with Phoebe and on my REVIEW of Whisper to get extra entries.

EDIT: After posting here, Phoebe wrote a short note to us. Read it below.

"I'm thrilled that Books Out of the Bookshelves is hosting this international contest for Whisper! While I was writing the book, I was lost in the world of Joy and Icka and their strange ability (or disability?). I hardly dared to imagine that people in countries far away from me might read it--and even now, that seems like the coolest part of having a book come out. Knowing that it will go places I haven't been. I love working with bloggers like Raíla who are enthusiastic, professional, and just plain fun to talk to online. To all Raíla's readers, I wish you the best of luck in her contest!"
– Phoebe Kitanidis

Thank you so much, Phoebe. You're my favorite! <3

Now that I have the chance to pick a follower of my blog to
win a hardcover copy of Whisper, plus bookmarks and stickers (all provided by Phoebe herself) I'm more than happy. So thank her, not me. To enter, it's very simple: be a follower. But, if you want to get extra entries, just pay attention on the form.

CONTEST RULES
  • Open internationally only for followers of this blog.
  • I will use the Random.Org to pick the winner.
  • The winner will have 2 weeks to claim her/his prize.
  • This contest will end on June 22nd, 2010.
  • Fill out the FORM.
P.S.: You can fill the form once and, then if you want to record a video or something to get the extra entries, you can fill it out again so I'll add your new entries. :)

The Body Finder Giveaway [CLOSED]

Hello! I have already said I've hit 50 followers, haven't I? Now it's actually 54! I felt super-thankful and happy about it AND wanted to make something to give you in return. I received an awesome THE BODY FINDER swag package from Kimberly Derting and I'll give some of them away. I was going to say that I couldn't put a book up on this giveaway, but now I've discovered the Amazon Prime and it got cheaper. I am very, very sorry, but I can't ship to outside the whole American continent. I'm speding the rest of the money I got for birthday on this because I feel like doing it! :) I hope to get 100 followers until it ends. I will start only with the FIRST PLACE WINNER, then for each 15 followers I get I will add one more winner until I get 4 winners to give the swag away.

You MUST be a follower to enter.
If you win, I will contact you and wait you to respond until two (2) weeks.

WINNERS

1st Place: 1 hardcover copy of The Body Finder, 1 poster, 2 signed bookmarks and 2 stickers. (Open only to US and Canada)
2nd Place: 1 poster, 2 signed bookmarks, 2 stickers. (Open to North, Central and South America)
3rd Place and 4th Place: 1 signed bookmark and 2 stickers. (Open to North, Central and South America)
Ends on 04/16*

*UPDATED: I can't make it end before this date because I realized that I will be doing the school trimestrial tests and the trial Amazon Prime only goes until 04/29, so I'm afraid the first winner doesn't respond it quickly enough for me to be able to purchase the hardcover.

To enter, fill out the form here.
